A message from Dr. Leah Taylor
ABOUT

Dr. Leah Taylor

From an early age, music has been my sanctuary. My dad owned a music store, so I grew up surrounded by records, tapes, and later CDs. These became my go-to for mood regulation, comfort, and escape throughout my childhood and teenage years.

My life was forever changed at age 18 after seeing Rusted Root perform live at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach. It was the first time I felt a profound connection with my entire being—body, mind, and spirit.

The percussive beats burst my heart and spirit wide open and scrubbed my soul clean as I danced with abandon for the whole show. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before, and I wanted MORE!

This transcendent experience ignited a passion within me to rigorously understand the mind-body-spirit connection, leading to a Master’s Degree in Somatic Psychology and a PhD in Mind-Body Medicine. During my dissertation research on the relationship between live music and well-being, I became fascinated by music festivals as vessels for transformation.

Over the past seven years, I’ve developed and applied a framework for engaging with the multiple facets of a transformative experience—preparation, the experience itself, and integration—within the context of multi-day music events. This practice has brought greater depth and meaning to my live shows, festivals, and everyday life! I’ve had the privilege of guiding others through this journey at Camp Deep End Music Festival in Northern CA.

Today, it is my great honor and pleasure to bring Embodied Groove FestivALL-IN to Joshua Tree Music Festival, to continue to share this transformative process with you to deepen your connection to the music, yourself, and the world around you!
